In a significant move to combat the feral pig problem, five (5) regional coordinators have been appointed across six (6) Queensland regions. These coordinators are stationed in Cairns, Longreach, Mareeba, Townsville, and Mount Isa. Their primary role is to bolster management strategies aimed at mitigating the adverse impacts of feral pigs on agriculture and the environment.

Feral pigs have long been a concern in Queensland, causing extensive damage to crops, pastures, and native ecosystems. The introduction of dedicated coordinators is expected to streamline and control measures, foster community engagement, and implement effective management plans tailored to each region’s specific challenges.

This initiative underscores Queensland’s commitment to addressing invasive species issues and safeguarding the state’s agriculture and environmental assets.
