Protection of the Gulf Snapping Turtle in the Southern Gulf

The project’s aim is to directly reduce threats to the Gulf Snapping Turtle through feral pig control. Feral pigs consume eggs and hatchlings, while disturbing nests and damaging riverbank vegetation, which causes erosion and increased sediment pollution of turtle habitat. The project will take an integrated approach to feral pig management through the coordinated use of multiple management techniques and information sharing between key stakeholders in an effective and strategic manner. The project will work collaboratively with land managers, university researchers, and pest animal contractors to undertake on-ground activities.

This project is funded by Queensland Government’s Natural Resource Management Expansion Program.
