Leaving a Legacy of Improved Land Conditions

This project will accelerate the impact of two highly regarded professionals whose messages motivate land condition improvement within the beef industry. Both are approaching retirement and there is no industry succession plan to capture their expertise, knowledge and skills. This activity will translate their knowledge into adoption, training and communication products to upskill primary producers, extension professionals and students for at least the next 5 years.

This project is integrated with the Southern Gulf Climate Resilient Agriculture project. This project this responsible for organising workshops to be delivered to industry by Dr Ian Braithwaite and Darryl Hill.

Dr Ian Braithwaite is a highly regarded veterinarian and business owner who motivates beef producers to implement early drought destocking, matching stocking rates to carrying capacity, and wet season spelling through practical, economic, and production relevant herd efficiencies.

Darryl Hill is renowed for delivering practical hands-on earth-moving training to primary producers to reduce the risk of erosion, restore water flow, and remediate degraded land.

This project is integrated with the Southern Gulf Climate Resilient Agriculture project by producing an expert video series to amplify industry engagement, and materials for training veterinary and environment students and professionals to carry forward Ian and Darryl’s knowledge.

This project received funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.
