Climate Mate

The ‘Northern Australia Climate Program’ (NACP) will continue to deliver innovative research, development and extension outcomes to improve the capacity of the red meat industry to manage drought and climate risk across northern Australia. The RD&E is vertically integrated from world leading climate modelling research, development of industry relevant products and delivery of a targeted extension and adoption service. To be delivered by the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), it includes collaboration between the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), the UK Met Office (UKMO), State Departments of Agriculture in Queensland (DAF), Northern Territory (DPIR), Western Australia (DPIRD) and Natural Resource Management (NRM) groups.

Extension and adoption will use Climate Mates extension officers, supported by USQ and BoM researchers, to deliver a climate service to the red meat supply chain to improve weather and climate awareness, knowledge and skills, and provide support and confidence to use this in decision making and deliver practice change to reduce risk related climate variability and contribute to positive financial, environmental and social outcomes.
