Membership Sectors
Local Government Sector
A member must be a Local Government Authority in the Southern Gulf region including Mount Isa City Council, Cloncurry Shire Council, Burke Shire Council, Flinders Shire Council, McKinlay Shire Council, Carpentaria Shire Council, Richmond Shire Council, Doomadgee Aboriginal Council and Mornington Island Aboriginal Council. The member must nominate a representative.
Conservation Sector
Membership is open to individuals and organisations with an active interest in the protection and conservation of the natural environment of the Southern Gulf Catchments region. Organisations must have as their principal objective the conservation of the natural environment and must nominate a representative.
Tourism & Other Industries Sector
A member is any registered business, or group that represents business, that operates within the Southern Gulf region with the intention of making a profit, excluding those businesses that are predominantly Pastoral or Mining. The business or group must nominate a representative.
Pastoral Sector
Members must have practical commercial/management experience in the livestock industry and/or land management in the Southern Gulf region. Representatives must be nominated by leaseholders and/or managers in the livestock industry in the Southern Gulf region.
Mining Sector
A member is a state or territory authorised commercial mining/mineral processing operation located within the Southern Gulf region. This member must have been approved by the board and be financial. The member must nominate a representative.
Greater Mount Isa Indigenous Sector
The Greater Mount Isa geographical region is defined for this purpose as comprising the Indjilandji, Indjilandji/Dithannoi, Kalkadoon, Ngawun Mbara, Wanamara, Yirendali, Mitakoodi and Mayi native title claim areas. Members are recognised Traditional Groups in the Greater Mount Isa region. The member nominates a representative who must have connection to the Land in the Greater Mount Isa region and is representative of Traditional Owners in this area.
Lower Gulf Indigenous Sector
The Lower Gulf geographical region is defined for this purpose as comprising the Waanyi, Garawa, Gangalidda, Kaiadilt, Yangkaal and Lardil native title claim areas. Members are recognised Traditional Groups in the Lower Gulf region. The member nominates a representative who must have connection to the land in the Lower Gulf region and is representative of Traditional Owners in this area.
Community Sector
A member is any community group with an interest in the management of natural resources in the Southern Gulf region and whose members are largely residents of the region. The group must nominate a representative.
