Funding Opportunities

 
Southern Gulf Catchments (SGC) strives to keep the community informed about natural resource management funding opportunities. If you would like more information please contact the Southern Gulf Catchments office.
 
 
 
General objectives of SGC funding:
 
1. To increase the capacity for land managers/community groups to undertake activities that preserve or enhance natural resources such as land, water, and flora and fauna by reducing threats while maintaining sustainable productive use of the resources.
 
2. Increase the capacity of people in the region to care for the regions natural and cultural resources through providing information, training and general assistance.
 
 
Investment criteria:
 
Project ideas must demonstrate clear natural resource benefits and/or identify capacity building outcomes in natural and cultural resource management.
 
Characteristics of investments likely to be considered :
  • Focus on causes rather than symptoms of an environmental issue
  • Value for money
  • Technically feasible and the most effective approach
  • A high degree of certainty in delivery of outcomes
  • Significant in-kind contribution (applicant contribution)
  • Collaborates with neighbouring properties or other parties
  • Continues previous works to achieve larger scale outcomes
  • Capacity building, community awareness or knowledge transfer 
 
Ineligible activities:
 
  • Purchase, lease or acquisition of land
  • Administrative, insurance, or legal costs other than those directly required for the project
  • Standard boundary fencing
  • Introduction of plants, animals or other biological agents that are known to be or could become environmental pests
  • Retrospective funding – activities that have already taken place
  • Direct subsidisation of commercial activities, business start-up, or where the sole purpose is commercial gain
  • Large capital works or public amenities
  • Activities that have an adverse impact on environmental or cultural assets
 
Examples of potential projects:
 
  • Infrastructure to exclude stock during the end of the dry season and start of the wet season to protect riparian environments
  • Fencing of high value biodiversity areas to protect and restore their values
  • Fire management planning and activities
  • Community capacity building, education and awareness initiatives
  • Community forums, workshops, public notices, field days with a natural resource management theme
  • Revegetation activities using native species
  • Training of groups in NRM themed areas
  • Control of WONS species in priority areas
  • Protection and management of spring wetlands
 
Other activities available and facilitated by SGC:
 
  • Assistance with property management planning (fire, weeds)
  • Training in sustainable grazing practices
  • Assistance with developing detailed property maps see Maps & Imagery
  • Training in the use of technology such as GPS and computer mapping software see Maps & Imagery

  • An individual 
  • Local government authorities
  • An aboriginal corporation, council or incorporated association
  • Incorporated community groups (if your group is not incorporated please call us to see if other arrangements can be made)
