Brian has lived and worked in the Mount Isa region for the majority of his life. He brings a genuine passion and enthusiasm for growth and development to the position of Chairman. Although a Chef by trade, he has over 18 years’ experience in business management within the Tourism and Hospitality Industry. Brian has prior knowledge and experience with Southern Gulf Catchments operations in his previous position as Tourism and Other Industries Director, whilst also chairing the Finance and Audit Committee.

Born and bred in Hughenden Shane has strong links with the region with his father being third generation grazier in the Richmond district and mother fourth generation in the Julia Creek district. All but 5 of his 41 years have been working and living in the pastoral industry, working as a ringer, roustabout, contractor and finally a pastoralist. Married with 3 wonderful girls he lives on the family property Arrara Station, south of Hughenden. A first time councillor with Flinders Shire Council he has a passion for the land and keeping it sustainable so future generations can appreciate it as much as he does. |
Conservation![]() John Taylor John has worked in the rangelands for over 30 years, in roles ranging from an ecologist/researcher and research manager in CSIRO, to a professor at a university. Most recently, he has been involved in developing educational programs to build the capacity of rangeland managers and NRM facilitators for 'triple bottom line' (i.e. economic, environmental and social) outcomes. He brings wide board and committee experience, and is currently the President of the Australian Rangeland Society. |

Raised in Mount Isa, Sophie is the owner and Licensee of Jays Real Estate. Jays is a family owned business in its 33rd year of operation, established by parents, John and Jackie Thinee. Whilst having grown up in the business, Sophie is also a teacher and has lived and worked across a large number of states in Australia in assorted remote mining towns. A passionate Mount Isan with a love for region and personal interest in the environment, Sophie believes strongly that the Tourism and Other Industries Sector are important custodians for the protection of this spectacular and unique part of Australia, for future generations. |
PastoralCharlie Hawkins
Charlie and his family own Herbertvale Station in far NW Qld which is a beef producing operation. He has been on the land all his life and has had wide experience in the pastoral industry having owned and worked properties in areas from Central Qld, Northern Darling Downs and Northern Territory. He has experience with extensive grazing trials in some of these areas and believes he has a broad knowledge of many different land types and practices. |
MiningJulie Boyer ![]() Julie comes to Southern Gulf Catchments with an extensive career in environmental management positions in the mining industry. Having worked for over 8 years with Xstrata in both their Queensland and Canadian operations Julie has worked in roles looking at biodiversity and sustainable closure management. In her current position as Manager - Sustainability for Xstrata Zinc her main priorities are safety, health, compliance, training and environmental strategies and programs. |

Megan has been living and working on pastoral properties within the region for the past 9 years. She is currently living and has lived on Gregory Downs Station for the past 5 years. She is a member of the Gregory Landcare group and also has an active interest in the management and control of weeds within the local region. Megan is passionate about the future sustainability of the Gregory River for all the people who rely on it for their economic, social and recreational purposes. |
